Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) is looking for passionate, high-calibre and result-oriented professionals to join its Startups Team as Head/ Senior Vice President of Startups. You will leverage your knowledge, experience and network to promote the city as a leading destination and hub for innovation and entrepreneurship and attract globally scalable, innovative, and high impact/growth entrepreneurs to set up their business in Hong Kong.
You will need to demonstrate:
- a good understanding of the role of InvestHK with knowledge of the local and international business environment;
- proven track record of experiences, preferably managerial experience, in meeting objectives and achieving targets;
- extensive knowledge and work experience, preferably managerial experience, in the startup ecosystem and inward investment promotion;
- strong business acumen and proven record of performance in client-facing activities with savvy marketing and business development skills in sector(s) such as Innovation and Technology, Life and Health Sciences, etc.;
- capability to connect, engage and approach executive-level management to understand their needs and provide deep industry insights;
- excellent track record of generating leads and capable of managing the relationship with ecosystem stakeholders/ multipliers, such as trade and professional associations, technology parks, universities, research institutions, innovation and co-creation labs, industrial organisations, investor groups, chambers and corporates, etc.;
- excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and public speaking skills in English, Cantonese and Putonghua; and
- a growth mindset for continuous improvements in enhancing investment promotion efficiencies and advancing knowledges in sectors and geographies.
Duties
- To develop and implement strategies and plans to attract and support Chinese Mainland and overseas startups to set up and expand in and via Hong Kong, and promote the city as a global hub for startups;
- To forge a close business relationship and establish a strong network in the startup ecosystem in Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland and overseas to maximise investment promotion efficiencies;
- To actively collaborate with and refer opportunities to other teams in InvestHK and connect startups with external stakeholders including but not limited to relevant HKSAR’s government bureaux, departments, statutory/ industry bodies, and trade/ professional associations to generate synergies and enhance service quality;
- To organise and participate in relevant local and overseas startup and investment promotion events;
- To coach and support colleagues to provide value-added client-centric services for startups and achieve the assigned targets in terms of completed projects, investment amount, employment, GoGlobal project, etc.;
- To build market knowledge and analyse market intelligence specifically related to startups and recommend ways to improve Hong Kong’s competitiveness and attractiveness as a leading destination and hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in Asia and around the world;
- Frequent travel outside Hong Kong is expected and required; and
- To perform any other duties as assigned by senior officers.
Entry Requirements
- 10 years of relevant full-time work experience gained in business development, international marketing/sales, economic development or foreign direct investment/trade promotion (applicants with at least 5 years but less than 10 years of relevant full-time work experience will only be considered for the Senior Vice President position);
- Sound knowledge of startup ecosystems and experience of working in or with innovative, scalable and high growth startups;
- Good networks within Hong Kong and/or overseas startup ecosystems;
- A Bachelor’s degree from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent, preferably in business administration, economics, science & technology or related field; a higher degree would be an advantage;
- Previous experience in line management is desirable; and
- A good command of both written and spoken Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua) and English. Proficiency in other language(s) would be desirable.
Terms of Appointment
Successful applicant will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for three months and the term will be extended up to an accumulative period of not more than 24 months subject to satisfactory performance and at the discretion of Invest Hong Kong. Under normal circumstances, there will usually be further renewal of contract, subject to the performance and conduct of the applicant, and the service need of the department.
Fringe Benefits
- An end-of-contract gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will equal 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period; and
- Applicant appointed will be granted 14 days of annual leave and the entitlement of annual leave will be calculated on pro-rata basis for appointment less than 12 months. Other benefits, such as rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity/ paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted mainly in line with the provisions of the Hong Kong Employment Ordinance.
