Head/ Principal Manager of Life and Health Sciences

Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) is looking for a passionate professional to join its Life and Health Sciences Team as Head/ Principal Manager of Life and Health Sciences to drive investment promotion work for the sector. You will leverage your sector knowledge, industry experience and network to promote Hong Kong as an innovative life and health sciences technology hub for global research collaboration and industry development.  Working with InvestHK’s global network, you will attract and support leading life and health sciences companies from Chinese Mainland and overseas to set up and/or expand their operations in and via Hong Kong.

You will need to demonstrate:

  1. track record of leadership and management experiences in leading teams to achieve targets;
  2. extensive knowledge and work experience to cover a wide spectrum of life and health sciences-related subjects, such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, advanced therapeutics, biotechnology research and development, diagnostics and medical health technologies gained in Hong Kong and/or globally;
  3. strong business acumen and proven record of performance in client-facing activities with savvy marketing and business development skills in the life and health sciences sector;
  4. capability to connect, engage and approach executive-level management to understand their needs and provide deep industry insights;
  5. excellent track record of generating leads and capable of managing the relationship with ecosystem stakeholders, such as technology parks, universities, research institutions, innovation and co-creation labs, industrial organisations, investor groups, chambers and corporates, etc.; 
  6. excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and public speaking skills in English, Cantonese and Putonghua; and
  7. knowledge of and good understanding of Hong Kong’s business environment and familiarity of business opportunities in the Chinese Mainland and overseas. 

A candidate will be considered for either Head or Principal Manager position depending on the experience and qualifications demonstrated.

Duties

  1. To develop and implement strategies and plans for life and health sciences sector, and engage executive-level management of leading companies in the sector, in order to promote Hong Kong as a leading life and health sciences technology hub, attract and support Chinese Mainland and overseas companies in the life and health sciences sector to set up and expand in and via Hong Kong;
  2. To develop and execute effective communication plans to strengthen our network and raise our profile in the life and health sciences ecosystem via investment promotion and marketing activities;
  3. Engage and develop partnerships with relevant policy bureaux, government departments, statutory bodies, business associations and public organisations, to generate synergies, and enhance service quality to clients; 
  4. To formulate briefs, presentations and thought leadership materials relevant to the life and health sciences sector and represent InvestHK to deliver public speeches and conduct internal and external interviews;
  5. To coach, motivate and support colleagues to provide value-added client-centric services and promotional initiatives and support the Directorates to take upon the managerial tasks when necessary;
  6. To conduct high quality and timely internal reporting, budget planning, monitoring and control for achieving targets, and proper and timely record-keeping in the Customer Relationship Management System; and
  7. To perform any other duties as assigned by senior officers.

The position may require some investment promotion visits in the Chinese Mainland and overseas.

Entry Requirements

  1. 10 years of relevant full-time work experience in account management, business development, consulting, project management, research and development and/or sales and marketing in the life and health sciences sector, with relevant managerial experience would be an advantage;
  2. A Bachelor’s degree from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent, preferably a science or engineering degree related to life and health sciences, biomedical or healthcare subjects. A Master or PhD degree related to life and health sciences subjects would be an advantage;
  3. Good knowledge of and experience in the life and health sciences ecosystems.  Prior work experience in investment promotion, marketing communications, consulting or economic development would be an advantage;
  4. Extensive business networks within the life and health sciences sector, including in the startup ecosystem and/or investment community; and
  5. A good command of both written and spoken Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua) and English. 

Terms of Appointment

Successful applicant will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for three months and the term will be extended up to an accumulative period of not more than 24 months subject to satisfactory performance and at the discretion of Invest Hong Kong.  Under normal circumstances, there will usually be further renewal of contract, subject to the performance and conduct of the applicant, and the service need of the department.

Fringe Benefits

  1. An end-of-contract gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract.  Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will equal 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period; and
  2. Applicant appointed will be granted 14 days of annual leave and the entitlement of annual leave will be calculated on pro-rata basis for appointment less than 12 months.  Other benefits, such as rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity/ paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted mainly in line with the provisions of the Hong Kong Employment Ordinance.
