The Daedalum Company Limited
Basic Information
Daedalum Films is a full-service content production company. We produce original content, and work with select clients to tell their stories.
We started this business in 2006 because we wanted to tell stories. A group of international filmmakers that met in Shanghai, we got our start making documentaries about interesting people, places, and phenomena in Asia.
Then agencies and brands found us and asked us to help them tell their stories.
The clients kept coming and we’re proud of our now 20-year track record.
We are now based between Hong Kong and Dallas. We have partners around the world and service clients across continents and industries. We are nimble and built to scale.
Why work with us
We keep our core team small and scale up with our global network
as required on a project basis.
We assemble elite creative professionals and tailor the production plan to your

Projects or Case Studies
Mother of Buffalo
Mother of Buffalo is a feature documentary telling the story of one woman looking after a disappearing herd of free-roaming water buffalo on Hong Kong's Lantau Island. Part 1 is currently screening worldwide on Cathay Pacific flights. The full feature will be released in late 2026. Sponsored by the Swire Group Charitable Trust, and winner of the Austin Film Society's North Texas Pioneer Award. This film also has achieved an industry-leading social media following, with engagement metrics far exceeding even the last 5 Oscar-winning documentaries.
Didi IPO Film
In the summer of 2021, China’s leading rideshare platform Didi hired us to make the film to promote their IPO. Produced amidst pandemic travel restrictions, Daedalum Films coordinated a production team spread out across Beijing, Hong Kong, London, New York, Santiago, Shanghai, and Singapore to produce a 16-minute film including an original script, live action, animation, and original music composition, delivered within five weeks of engagement. Didi was valued at $68 Billion at the conclusion of its first day of trading.
Alibaba IPO Film
Alibaba hired us to make the film that introduced their business to potential investors as they prepared to go public on the New York Stock Exchange. At the time, most of the world didn’t understand Alibaba. Was it a Chinese Amazon, eBay, or PayPal? The answer: all of the above, and more. Our pitch: explain Alibaba through documentary vignettes of real people participating in its vast ecosystem of platforms to enable and empower businesses and consumers. The film was a viral hit, and the IPO was the largest in history. Alibaba has commissioned many dozens more documentary films from us in the years since.
