13 Mari, a shipping industry startup specialising in ship tuning vessel optimisation solutions, is dedicated to enhancing marine fuel efficiency while reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions — delivering both environmental benefits and cost savings for vessel owners and operators.
The company has created a process of retrofitting the vessel's hull with passive elements, reducing the drag experienced by the vessel's hull, and resulting in better fuel efficiency. The shape and arrangement of these elements are inspired by natural phenomena, such as water ripples and the texture and movement of dunes in the desert.
To advance its technology, 13 Mari has established a research and development centre in Hong Kong. This facility focuses on optimising element placement and testing the company’s second-generation solution, slated for release in the near future.
13 Mari has chosen Hong Kong as the first expansion location in Asia due to its robust maritime heritage and strategic industry presence. The decision also reflects the company’s sentimental ties to the city, including its pivotal victory in The Captain’s Table — a Hong Kong maritime startup competition that played a key role in 13 Mari’s growth trajectory.
