Mediatech company expands Hong Kong operation to step up on blockchain business in the region

Mediatech company, Lumiere, announced today (26 April 2022) that it has expanded its Hong Kong team, leveraging the city’s vibrant creative industries and strategic location to further integrate blockchain technology in entertainment industry in the region.

Lumiere offers not only an enterprise resource planning platform to help finance and manage production and capital flows in film projects and during the reporting phase, but also a ground breaking blockchain business that aims to solve the multi-billion dollar transparency issue typically faced in creative productions around the world, according to its founder and CEO, Dr Patrice Poujol. Meanwhile, the company continues working with global film directors and production houses to sell and distribute their slate.

Dr Poujol said that the company succeeded at tokenizing the first ever film investment into the movie Papicha with its partner Finfabrik in 2019, which led the company to look more and more forward at how to adapt to the newest blockchain technology in entertainment industry via Hong Kong.

He said, “Hong Kong has traditionally had a rich film history and a booming creative industries sector ranging from design, to fashion, publishing, gaming and music. It remains an international city that bridges east and west, with the added benefit of being located within China, one of the largest film and entertainment markets in the world. The city is the most attractive place for us to carry out our expansion program.”

He added, “Hong Kong is also a financial centre uniquely placed in Asia while still having access to the rest of the world. This, together with growing government support for emerging technologies such as blockchain, makes the city an ideal platform to promote Lumiere’s dream of decentralised film investment.”

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Charles Ng, said, “We are happy to see Lumiere’s expansion in Hong Kong. It brings not only new and disruptive ideas to the entertainment industry, but also wider business opportunities for film finance and production. We wish it every success and look forward to its creative projects with business partners in the future.”
