Hot pot brand Fish in Rice opens first store outside Mainland in Hong Kong

Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) announced today (9 March 2026) that a Mainland hot pot chain, Fish in Rice, has opened its first store outside the Chinese Mainland in Hong Kong, choosing the city as first its first foothold for global expansion.

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion of InvestHK, Mr Arnold Lau, welcomed Fish in Rice’s establishment in Hong Kong. He said, “We are delighted that Fish in Rice has chosen Hong Kong as the first destination for its international expansion. Their expansion into Hong Kong not only introduces a unique Lingnan culinary culture to the city but also demonstrates Hong Kong's strengths in international operational standards and F&B business. By establishing a foothold in Hong Kong, the brand is leveraging the city's global business environment to refine its business model, setting a solid foundation for further expansion into broader overseas markets.”

The President of Fish in Rice (HK) Catering Limited, Mr Jixin Chen, said, “Hong Kong serves as a strategic hub connecting the Chinese Mainland with global markets, boasting a well-developed F&B ecosystem and acting as an international gateway for east-meets-west cultures. Choosing Hong Kong as the first stop for Fish in Rice's global strategy is a pivotal move for our brand upgrade. We aim to leverage Hong Kong's strong influence as an international culinary hub, utilising the city’s robust supply chain system and international regulatory standards to establish our presence here as our first step toward the global market.”

He added that the Hong Kong office is responsible for coordinating operations in Hong Kong and managing business expansion in potential future markets. Following the launch of its first store, the brand plans to gradually expand by opening new stores in core districts across the city, subject to market response.

Fish in Rice was founded in 2013 in Shenzhen. Originally named as "Tao Mi Lao" in the Chinese Mainland, it is a hot pot chain known for its signature fresh, crispy grass carp and distinctive congee-base hotpot. Adhering to the dining philosophy of "freshness, crispness, and authenticity", Fish in Rice is committed to providing a quality dining experience for customers.
