The HKVCA’s flagship China Private Equity Summit (CPES) will play host to as many as 1,000 venture capital and private equity practitioners, corporates, and other industry professionals. Acknowledged as the industry’s leading practitioners’ conference, this year’s event will be held in a hybrid format with both in-person and virtual sessions, allowing for significantly greater engagement from professionals in Hong Kong, across the region and around the world.
It has been over two years since the initial outbreak of COVID-19, and with the emergence of the omicron variant in Q1 2022, China has imposed varying restrictions and degrees of lockdown across the country. The impact this will have on the Chinese economy remains to be seen, but global political and economic circumstances continue to be uncertain, leading to ongoing supply chain disruptions and inflation around the world. Within China too, many corporates have pledged to embrace stricter government oversight with an acknowledgement that the ‘reckless’ tech era is over.
Against this backdrop, then, what actions are being taken by Chinese PE and VC practitioners and how are they preparing going forward? Which industries are they most interested in, and how are they starting to position themselves relative to their peers? With increasing regulation of the financial industry (including asset management, capital markets, banks and insurance) and a growing anti-monopoly movement aimed at Chinese tech giants, what are the implications for companies and investors as we emerge from the pandemic? And what strategies will we begin to see – buyouts, secondaries, sector focus, SPACs, PIPEs, etc. – from those who are deploying capital in China? These are just some of the issues the Summit will be addressing. We are confident that you will find much to value in the presentations and discussion at this highly anticipated event.
