Wine & Spirit Education Trust opens first international office in Hong Kong

British wine and spirit education provider, Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), officially opened its first international office, WSET Asia Pacific, in Hong Kong today (November 10), for better coordination of its accredited courses in the region.

Located in Wanchai, the new Hong Kong office provides support to WSET’s local network of course providers, educators and corporate partners, as well as the growing WSET alumni community. It also plans to expand operations to include examination support in the future, according to its Chief Executive, Mr Ian Harris.

He said, “We have provided WSET qualifications through Approved Programme Providers in Hong Kong since the turn of the millennium, and the expansion into, and across Mainland China over the past 10 years has been phenomenal. The decision to open an administrative office in Hong Kong was taken last year, as it will enable us to better serve the community across Asia.”

He added, “There is a new wave of younger millennials in the Mainland, and across Asia, who are interested in wine and spirits, so we are stepping in to further enhance the service we provide to support our Providers in the region, as well as businesses who will benefit from wine and spirit education and qualifications. This is our first administration office outside of the UK, and with the international growth of WSET growing at such a fast rate, I am sure it will not be our last.”

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Dr Jimmy Chiang, said, “We’re happy to see that WSET choose Hong Kong as its first overseas office outside of the UK. It is not only a vote of confidence in our wine education market, but also provides better services to the wine community in the region by leveraging the city’s strategic location. We wish WSET every success in Hong Kong and look forward to its expansion in the region.”
