Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion Dr Jimmy Chiang said, "Hong Kong has a dynamic environmental, social and governance (ESG) environment. In fact, more and more companies here are proactive in addressing ESG concerns, offering business opportunities for social enterprises, like X BAG, to expand their business."
X BAG connects local businesses and consumers to reduce food waste through its self-developed mobile application, in which users can pre-order and then collect the "Magic Bag” from businesses that made up of their surplus food of good quality on that day, according to its Territory Lead, Mr Alan Ip. It has already connected with local restaurant chains and pastry shops in Hong Kong to provide the “Magic Bag”.
Mr Ip said, “We found that Hong Kong people have a deep understanding of sustainability. The city is also a connecting point between the East and West and a renowned gourmet paradise of the world. It is the best choice for us to set up our first presence outside the Mainland. The new entity is the international version of X BAG.”
He added, “We will use Hong Kong to better understand the eating and living habits of other countries, as well as the acceptance of our food saving vision. The city is an excellent springboard for us to expand into the Southeast Asian markets.”
Established in 2021 in Beijing, X BAG is a social enterprise committed to solving the problem of food waste. It is a certified B Corp with a mission to facilitate a world without food waste. It has connected with more than 15,000 well-known restaurant chains and pastry shops in more than 70 cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and more to provide the “Magic Bag” locally.
