Subsidy for the Passenger Transport Sector

In view of the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, under the first round of the Anti-epidemic Fund approved by the Legislative Council Finance Committee on 21 February 2020, some $3.2 billion are earmarked to provide the fuel subsidy and one-off subsidy to the transport trades to help them cope with the operating pressure in the prevailing economic environment. The passenger transport sector is facing financial cliff edge in view of the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the necessary social distancing measures. Therefore, the Government announced a package of measures on 8 April 2020 and has successfully applied to the Legislative Council Finance Committee for the second round of the Anti-epidemic Fund on 18 April 2020 to provide financial support to the various passenger transport trades including the affected frontline drivers.
