Sony Computer Entertainment celebrate ten years
in Hong Kong
Sony Computer Entertainment celebrated its 10th
anniversary in Hong Kong this year with a series of events designed to
showcase its latest products and services. The highlight was the
opening of the Sony PlayStation playground at Sky City, part of the
Hong Kong International Airport complex.
The Sony PlayStation playground features their latest games and has
already become a popular haunt with both air travelers and the general
public - who can visit Sky City regardless of whether they are flying
or not.
“We’ve grown our presence in Hong Kong
substantially over the past decade to meet our customers’ demands,”
said Mr. Keiichiro Kondo, the Director and General Manager of Sony
Computer Entertainment.
Hong Kong’s advantages
Mr Kondo explained that for Sony Hong Kong’s
appeal was multifaceted. “We love Hong Kong not just for its impressive
infrastructure, logistical excellence and talented local workforce, but
also because it is a sophisticated metropolis with excellent schools,
restaurants and a staggeringly low crime rate.”
A long term resident of Hong Kong, Kondo
explains why Sony chose Hong Kong to be its East Asia headquarters. “We
had a choice of a number of cities, most notably Singapore, but no
other location could provide us with the wealth of advantages that Hong
Kong offers”.
“Here we have low taxes, world-class
intellectual property laws and the region’s best enforcement procedures
together with a geographical location that makes inter-regional travel
easy and accessible.”
Coffeetainment!
Sony’s other ten year anniversary celebrations
have included a number of events aimed at giving back to Hong Kong.
These include its highly successful PlayStation road show and the
planned opening of a series of PlayStation cafes – where coffee and
entertainment will fuse into ‘Coffeetainment’’.
Finally, Sony’s is collaborating with Hong
Kong’s Cyberport to bring together Hong Kong’s young, talented
developers and Sony’s gaming knowledge and technical wizardry.
“Our company has benefited massively from our
ten years here and we’re keen to work with the next generation of
gaming talent to ensure that our next ten years is just as exciting,”
said Mr Kondo.
