Investment Promotion Ambassador Scheme

Roles of an IPA

The objective of the Investment Promotion Ambassador (IPA) Scheme is to harness the energy and networking potential of prominent figures in the business community to support Hong Kong’s investment promotion efforts in overseas and Mainland markets. The IPAs come from a wide spectrum of business sectors, and include both local and overseas business leaders. Appointed by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, our IPAs serve as "door openers" to help promote the investment advantages offered by Hong Kong, the Pearl River Delta and the whole of the Mainland. In addition, they act as “endorsers” for the investment promotion efforts of Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) having regard to their knowledge and first-hand experience of doing business in Hong Kong.

How the Scheme operates?

InvestHK is the department of the HKSAR Government driving the IPA Scheme, which was first launched in April 2003. It arranges investment promotion activities for the IPAs in accordance with their schedule of business trips to key overseas and Mainland markets. When the opportunity arises, the IPAs introduce InvestHK’s investment promotion staff to key decision makers in companies, which have the potential to invest in Hong Kong. On other occasions, they are invited to speak at appropriate investment promotion events to explain from their business perspective and personal experience the merits of Hong Kong as a destination for direct investment and as a base for doing business with the Mainland and the rest of the Asia Pacific region.
